How to Make a Stage With PVC Pipes & Fabric
A stage is a charming setting for homemade plays and skits, and can be a whimsical addition to a child's playroom. You can make your own play stage by hand, including curtain panels, by using just a bit of PVC pipe and fabric. PVC pipe can be purchased at any building supply store. This will cut down on costs over purchasing a similar item premade from a toy store, where like items can sometimes be expensive.
Things You'll Need
- 12 pieces of PVC pipe
- Hand saw
- 8 PVC corner pieces
- Fabric
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
Instructions

1
Cut eight pieces of straight PVC pipe to the same length, using a hand saw. The length is up to you, depending on the size you want the stage to be, but 5 feet each works well for a child's stage.
-
2
Cut four pieces of straight PVC pipe to the same length. Three feet each works well if the pieces from the first step are cut to 5 feet.
-
-
3
Lay four of the longer pieces on the ground in a square shape. Connect each corner using a three-pronged corner PVC piece.
-
4
Repeat Step 3 so you have two squares of PVC pipe.
-
5
Attach the two squares together by inserting the shorter pieces of PVC pipe in between the two frames, attaching the shorter pieces into the corner PVC pieces. You should now have a cube shape made out of the pipe.
-
6
Set the stage upright on a flat surface or the ground; the floor of a playroom is ideal. Cut panels of fabric, one for each of the four sides of the cubed frame, making each panel of fabric the approximate height and width of the side of the PVC stage it will cover, plus 3 inches.
-
7
Hang each panel of fabric over one of the top bars of the sides of the cube, wrapping the end of the fabric over so it touches itself on the other side. Secure in place with a line of hot glue, making sure the glue only touches the fabric, not the PVC pipe. This will ensure you can pull each curtain panel forward and backward when performing.

Tips & Warnings
Dimensions for a 5 feet by 3 feet cube works for small children. For taller children or adults, add at least 2 feet to each piece of pipe, making a larger stage.
