Instructions

  1. The Bottle

    • 1

Soak the wine bottle in hot water for five minutes. Rub off the wine label using your hands or a dish cloth and allow the bottle to dry.

    • 2

Wrap around a 1/2-inch copper coupling with plumber's tape until it's large enough to fit snugly in the neck of the wine bottle without falling in. Feed a 1/2-inch wick through the coupling, leaving one inch of wick out of the top.

    • 3

Fill the wine bottle with torch oil. Insert the wick and coupling into the wine bottle until it's snug, with the long end of the wick going into the bottle.

    The Holder

    • 4

Place a galvanized steel top plate connector for a 3/8-inch threaded, galvanized rod on the wall or fence that you plan to install your torch on. Mark the holes of the bracket and drill holes where you have marked. Screw the connector in place with the threaded opening away from the wall.

    • 5

Cut a 3/8-inch threaded rod using a hacksaw. Cut the length 6 inches to 1 foot long, depending on how far away you want your torch to sit from the wall. Screw the rod into the threaded opening of the top plate connector.

    • 6

Screw a 1-inch galvanized split ring hanger with a 3/8-inch thread opening onto the other end of the rod. Turn the split ring hanger until it's parallel to the ground.

    • 7

Loosen the screws on the sides of the split ring hanger and feed the wine bottle through the opening. Tighten the screws around the neck of the bottle until tight, using the lip of the bottle as an anchor to prevent the bottle from slipping through the hanger.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep your wick trimmed to no longer than one inch. Don't use torches indoors.
