How to Dress Like a Clown. Dressing up as a clown is a fun and inexpensive way to liven up a children's party. It is also a fast and easy way to prepare for a costume party. Clown costumes do not have to cost a lot of money or involve thick, messy makeup. All it takes to don an interesting and effective clown costume is some creativity and some clothes.
Clown Clothes
Step 1
Wear an oversized and brightly colored shirt.

Step 2
Put on oversized pants and attach them with suspenders.
Step 3
Replace the shoelaces in your shoes with brightly colored laces. Tie them with multiple-bit loops.
Step 4
Put on a wide tie, worn long. Tie it improperly-even in a knot with a little tip sticking out will work.
Step 5
Now put on your hat, preferably oversized or crooked.
Clown Makeup
Step 1
Paint your face white. Costume makeup works very well. If that is not available, flour applied to a slightly damp face works as well. You may have to reapply the flour after a few hours.
Step 2
Draw semicircles above your eyes that extend above your eyebrows.
Step 3
Draw lines from the top, bottom and sides of each of your eyes.
Step 4
Apply lipstick, drawing circles at the crease.
Step 5
Color the cheeks in one large circle or five small circles.
Step 6
Paint the tip of your nose red.
Tip
Children's shoelaces work well but usually are too short. To compensate, tie two together. You also can purchase complete clown outfits at stores, but usually clothes you have around your house will do. Party stores usually have silly hats that are fun. If you can't find one, attaching large plastic flowers and paper windmills onto an ordinary hat gives a similar effect. Overdrawing the mouth in the shape of a permanent smile is another easy trick.
