How to Disassemble a HP 4700 Color Printer
The HP Color LaserJet 4700 printer is designed for quick installation and de-installation. Most of the machine’s assembly, except for the addition of accessories such as extra input trays and the stapler/stacker unit, is performed during the manufacturing process. As a result, you don’t need to spend much time assembling the machine when you start using it or disassembling the machine to install it elsewhere or to perform basic troubleshooting, repair or maintenance. You simply need to understand how certain parts fit together and remove them as needed.

1
Turn off and unplug your HP 4700 printer, and then unplug any attached cables and lines. Set the cables aside. If you used the printer in the last half hour, wait until the printer cools completely before proceeding.
-
2
Remove any paper still in the printer from the paper trays and output areas. If you’re using the stapler/stacker unit and paper is jammed in it, lift the unit cover, carefully grasp the paper on both sides and then pull it from the unit. Remove any paper jammed in the paper input or output trays if applicable. Set the paper aside.

3
Grasp the side of the stapler/stacker unit if you’re using it. Lift it up carefully from the printer and set it on a tabletop. Open the stapler cartridge cover on the left side of the unit, lift the staple cartridge handle up, grasp the stapler cartridge, twist it slightly counterclockwise and then remove it. Set the unit and cartridge aside.
-
4
Lift the printer off any extra trays beneath it with the help of another person. Each of you should grab one side of the machine and then lift up. Set the machine on a tabletop and then set the extra paper sheet trays and printer stand aside.
-
5
Grasp the top printer cover and lift it up to access the printer interior. Flip the front cover slowly toward you and lower it down to the tabletop. Grasp the green-colored handle on the transfer unit and lower the unit carefully on top of the lowered front cover.
-
6
Reach into the printer and pull out a toner cartridge. Place the cartridge in one of your black plastic bags to prevent exposure to light that can damage it. Then tape the bag shut. Repeat this process with the other cartridges and then set them aside. When you’re finished, perform maintenance such as cleaning or paper jam removal or transport your printer to a different location.
