The wrong wedding hairstyle can detract from your dress, ruin your pictures and make you self-conscious. A wedding hairstyle needs to complement your face, your dress and your hair accessories. Typically brides choose one main accessory -- such as a veil, headband, barrette or a flower -- but incorporating both a veil and a side flower is possible with the right style. Instructions

Select your veil. Choose a midlength veil if you have midlength hair. Long veils look best with longer hair. Select a long veil if your wedding dress is short. Any length veil looks complimentary with longer dresses. Choose a standard, angel or bubble cut veil so that it does not cover the flower. Do not wear a wedding veil blusher as it would obscure the vision of your flower and possibly affect its shape.

Wear your hair down if you want a simple, sexy look. Curl your hair or let it be naturally wavy under your veil. Use a hair product like a defrizz mousse or smoother to make your hair sleek and hold the curls. Pin a flower behind one ear and wear the veil on the top of your head with a comb. Choose a small to medium size flower headpiece if you have bangs.

Sweep your hair into a side ponytail for a more classic look. Smooth down your hair with mousse and use bobby pins to hold the side ponytail down. Use a floral hair tie to achieve a side flower look, or pin a silk floral barrette behind the ear on the same side as the ponytail. Fresh flowers on a hair tie around your ponytail brings the flowers forward and to the side where the veil cannot crush them.

Braid small pony tails into the top of your head if you have short hair. Use small rubber bands to hold the pony tails. Stick the comb into the area of the pony tails to hold the veil. Pin a floral barrette behind one ear.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add hair extensions if you have short hair and want a side ponytail. Use wavy hair extensions and have your stylist put it in the extensions for you. Your wedding is not the day to add hair extensions yourself.
