For example, a poodle works well as a display, to play with or to attach to a small gift. With strategic bends and curls, form pipe cleaners to look like a real poodle.

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap a pipe cleaner around the barrel of a pen several times. Pull the pipe cleaner tight as you wrap it, creating a coil. Push the coils of the pipe cleaner together, forming a tight spiral for the body. Slide the coil off of the pen.

    • 2

Hold the body with one hand, and insert a second pipe cleaner through the center. Position the pipe cleaner so the left side sticks out about 2 inches behind the body. Bend up the left end, creating a right angle for the tail. Bend up the remaining right side of the pipe cleaner, creating a right angle for the neck. The body should be secured on the second pipe cleaner by the two bent ends.

    • 3

Bend the long right end of the second pipe cleaner to create the poodle's head on the neck. Measure about 2 inches up from the body to create a second bend, turning the end of the pipe cleaner toward the right to create the top of the head. Create a bend about a 1/2 inch down the top of the head to angle the pipe cleaner back toward the neck. Wrap the pipe cleaner around the neck once to secure the head in place. Cut off the end of the pipe cleaner.

    • 4

Cut a third pipe cleaner into two 4-inch lengths. Fold each length in half, matching up the two cut ends and forming a “V” shape. Push one of the folded pipe cleaners into the body of the poodle to create the legs. Insert one pipe cleaner at the front of the body and one at the back. Push the legs down to the bottom of the coils, securing them in place.

    • 5

Wrap the end of a fourth pipe cleaner around the tip of the pen several times. Using the tip of the pen creates a cone-shaped coil, which will fit onto the head of the poodle. Wrap the coil until it measures between a 1/2 inch and 1 inch long. Cut the end of the pipe cleaner from the coiled head.

    • 6

Fit the coiled head onto the formed head of the poodle. Ensure the coil is pushed on tightly and will not easily pull off. Adjust and tighten any coils or the inner pipe cleaner if necessary.

    • 7

Cut the remainder of the fourth pipe cleaner to measure about 3 inches long. Insert the center of the cut pipe cleaner between the back coils of the head to form the two ears. Bend each ear down slightly to finish the shaping of the poodle.

    • 8

Decorate the poodle by adding fuzzy pom-poms for the fur. Push one pom-pom onto each ear, leg and the tail. Glue googly eyes onto the head of the poodle, as well as a small dot of black paper for the nose. Trim the tail, ears or legs to the desired length after each pom-pom is added.
