How to Make the Paint on My Truck Shine Without Repainting It
Most trucks with dull paint don’t need a new paint job, they just need the oxidation removed from the surface of the paint. Once the oxidation is removed, the existing paint will shine like an almost-new finish. Skip the paint booth and refresh the paint yourself at home. A little bit of your time will save a lot of your money.
Things You'll Need

Instructions

1
Wash your truck to clean off surface dirt and debris. Dry the truck most of the way with a chamois, then let it air-dry completely before moving to the next step.
-
2
Squirt a dime-size amount of liquid buffing compound onto a panel of the truck. Put the buffer against the panel and turn it on.
-
-
3
Work the buffer across the panel to apply the compound over the entire surface. As you move the buffer, the compound removes oxidation from the paint, leaving a shiny surface.
-
4
Move to the next panel and repeat the process. Use more compound on larger panels, such as the hood and the side of the truck’s bed.
-
5
Change the pad on the buffer to a polishing pad after you have finished applying the buffing compound. Use car polish on the truck following the same techniques used with the compound.

Tips & Warnings
Avoid working in direct sunlight, as this affects the finish. Work in a shaded area.
Don’t use a high-speed buffer that rotates in complete circles; it will cause swirl marks on your truck’s surface.
