How to Use a Half Coupling Fitting
A standard coupling connector has two threaded ends and is used to attach two pieces of threaded pipe together. A half coupling has only one threaded side and is most commonly used to connect hoses and pipes to various applications related to the home and in automobiles. Cut the hose or pipe to the desired length with a hack saw. Make your cut as straight as possible and avoid creating a jagged or otherwise rough edge.

For couplings that require that you insert a hose into them, grip the outside of the fitting with pliers and use force to bend the fitting around the hose to secure it.

For couplings that you inserted over the end of the fitting, attach a hose clamp over the hose and tighten it down to secure the hose onto the fitting.

For metal pipes, insert the pipe into the fitting and weld the fitting onto the pipe to secure the two pieces together.

For PVC pipes, glue the two pieces together with PVC glue and allow to dry overnight before you run any water through the pipe.
