How to Fix Air Vent Water Overflow in a Dishwasher
Most dishwasher installations include a vent that functions to keep the water running through the plumbing properly and not back into the dishwasher tub. The vent is called an air gap and is located next to the faucet on top of the sink. When debris accumulates inside of the air gap, you may notice some standing water in the bottom of the dishwasher tub. When this occurs, the air gap must be removed and unclogged. Turn the dishwasher off.

Remove the air gap cover next to the sink faucet.

Unscrew and remove the diverter cap.

Remove and discard any hair, food particles, buildup or other debris from inside of the diverter.

Replace the cap and cover.
