How to Crochet a Brim on a Beanie With 2 Strands
Transforming a beanie into a stylish hat is as simple as adding a crocheted brim. A brim gives the beanie a distinguished look and also provides protection from environmental elements. Using two strands of yarn to crochet the brim gives the brim an extra thickness, fully shielding your face and eyes from the bright sun. Crochet a thick brim onto your beanie by using two strands of yarn.

1
Pull two strands of yarn together and match up the cut ends. Use the two strands together on every stitch, crocheting normally as if you're using only one strand. Tie a slip knot at the end of the strands of yarn. Leave the loop of the slip knot just large enough to fit around the crochet hook. Use the same size crochet hook that you used to create the beanie. This ensures that the stitches are similar size and the brim isn't disproportionate to the beanie. Slip the crochet hook through the loop and tighten the knot around the shaft.
-
2
Turn the beanie around to the back and locate the seam, if possible. If the seam is not easily visible, estimate the center of the back of the beanie as a starting point. Insert the crochet hook into the stitch of the seam or center point and create a slip stitch to join.

3
Chain two and create a double crochet in the slip stitch. Crochet one double crochet in each of the first two stitches along the bottom of the beanie. Create two double crochets in the third stitch. Chain one and skip over the next stitch.
-
4
Create two double crochets in the next stitch and one double crochet in each of the next two stitches. Make two double crochets in the next stitch along the bottom of the beanie. Chain one and skip over a stitch. Repeat this process around the bottom of the beanie to complete the first round of the brim. Slip stitch to join with the beginning.
-
5
Begin the second round of the brim by chaining two from the slip stitch. Create a double crochet in the slip stitch to accommodate the row height. Work around the first row of the brim, creating a double crochet in each double crochet. Chain one across each chain-one space from the previous row. Do not create a stitch in the chain-one spaces. Slip stitch to join with the beginning. Repeat this process to complete the second and third round of the brim.
-
6
Chain two and create a double crochet in the slip stitch. Create four double crochets along the row and make two double crochets in the fifth double crochet. Chain one.
-
7
Create two double crochet in the next stitch. Make four double crochets, one in each of the next four stitches. Crochet two double crochets in the next double crochet and chain one. Repeat this process to finish out the fourth round on the brim. Slip stitch to join at the end.
-
8
Start the final round of the brim by chaining two and making a double crochet in the slip stitch. Create seven double crochets along the row and chain one. Create eight double crochets along the row and chain one. Work along the last row alternating between making eight double crochets and one chain. Slip stitch to join.
-
9
Cut the strands of yarn, leaving an approximate 4-inch tail on each strand. Holding the cut ends together, push them through the last loop of the slip stitch. Pull the yarn strands, tightening the loop and tying off the brim.
-
10
Weave the strands of yarn together through several stitches. Cut the tails to remove any extra length of yarn that sticks out from the stitches.
