How to Cut Wonky Quilt House Blocks
Some quilts are symmetrical in their patterns -- intricate designs that repeat across the length and width of the bedclothes. The pieces of fabric that make up symmetrically patterned quilts tend to be uniform in size and cut in straight lines or even circles. Wonky blocks, however, are cut differently. Wonky blocks themselves are identical in size -- so as to make an even-length quilt -- but the house pattern inside the blocks are varied and asymmetrical, much like older houses in neighborhoods across the country. So get out your scissors and fabric and create your own wonky house quilt.

1
Choose your fabric. Wonky quilts are colorful; they have both bright, plain blocks of fabric and blocks with different colorful patterns. Select enough fabric to create a 12-inch-square block, which will give you enough space to create a wonky house.

2
Measure and mark the pieces of the house. Use your pen to mark a scalene triangle -- no two sides are the same size -- for the roof. Mark a box with four slightly unequal sides for use as the base of your house. Continue marking pieces of fabric, such as a circle or ellipse for a window, a slightly irregular rectangle for a door and another unusual rectangle for a chimney.

Cut out the wonky blocks of fabric you marked in Step 2. Use your square rule to cut a 12-inch-square block of fabric and then piece together your house on top of the square. Cut off any excess outside the square.
