Make a rose corsage from baby socks.

Spoil the mother-to-be at her baby shower by creating a baby sock rose corsage for her to wear throughout the party. This is a small way to honor her while also giving her a useful gift. Each rose is made from a rolled-up baby sock taped to a stem of floral wire. Use blue or pink socks paired with white socks to signal the sex of the coming baby. Baby sock corsages work well as either a wrist or shoulder corsage.

  • Safety pin
  • 4 silk leaves

Instructions

    • 1

Unroll two pairs of baby socks and lay each sock out flat on a work surface. Select two socks. Place one sock on top of the other, matching up the toes and heels. Begin rolling the two socks up at the toe. Roll the socks until you reach the heels.

    • 2

Hold onto the rolled portion of the sock to prevent it from unrolling. Flip the cuffs of the two socks up around the rolled portion. Fluff the rolled layers of sock until you are happy with the shape of your rose.

    • 3

Choose one of the two remaining socks. Roll the single sock up in the same manner as before, flipping the cuff at the end to hold the rolls. Roll up the remaining sock as before. Roll the last sock the entire way to the edge of the cuff. Pin the cuff to the side of the rolled sock with a safety pin to secure the rolls. Fluff these two roses until they reach the desired shape.

Cut four silk leaves from their stems. Cut three pieces of floral wire, each eight inches in length, with a pair of wire cutters.

    • 5

Select the double sock rose. Arrange two of the silk leaves on one side of the rose. Hold the bottom of the leaves against the bottom of the rose. Select one piece of floral wire. Push one end of the wire through the bottom of the leaves and through layers of socks at the rose bottom. Pull the wire through the opposite side of the sock rose until the ends of the protruding wire are even in length. Bend the wire ends down below the sock rose and twist them together. Repeat this process with the two remaining sock roses, attaching only one leaf to each sock.

    • 6

Cut three sprigs of baby's breath from a stem. Leave a 1 1/2-inch length of stem attached to each sprig. Hold one of the sprigs up against the side of the largest sock rose. Position the baby's breath near the leaves. Hold the stem of baby's breath against the wire stem of the rose.

    • 7

Wrap the baby's breath stem and wire stem with floral tape. Begin wrapping over the bottom of the sock rose and leaves where the wire is protruding. Work your way down to the end of the wire stem. Repeat this process with the remaining two roses, adding one sprig of baby's breath to each rose before wrapping.

    • 8

Hold the double sock rose by its stem in one hand, with the leaves and baby's breath on the right side. Add the medium sized sock rose with the cuff flipped up to the upper right side of the first rose. Position the second rose with the baby's breath and leaf on the right side as well. Pinch the stems together.

    • 9

Add the third and smallest rose with the rolled up cuff to the arrangement. Position the third rose to the left of the second rose. Position the third rose so that the baby's breath and leaf are on the left side. Pinch the three stems together and wrap them with floral tape.

    • 10

Cut two to three pieces of 1/2-inch ribbon, 18 inches in length. Layer the ribbons together and wrap them around the stem of the corsage, just below the bottom rose. Tie the ribbons in a bow around the stem. Trim their tails if needed. Curl the end of the corsage's stem by wrapping it around a pencil. Insert a corsage pin through the corsage's stem.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use socks with a lace or ruffled cuff to create frilly roses.

  • Use multiple colors of socks to create a colorful corsage.

  • Tie a loop of ribbon around the middle of the corsage's stem to create a wrist band.
