Buffering problems on an Apple computer can be maddening; they cause the player to stop and start so often that it makes a video unwatchable. If you are having trouble with streaming video, it does not necessarily mean that there is a problem with your computer. Often, buffering problems can be solved with a few simple solutions that do not require you to spend money or time on repairs.

      Check the Internet connection to make sure it is running fast enough to handle streaming video. Watch the AirPort signal icon at the top of your screen; if it flashes on and off, the Internet is spotty and will not support video. To check the strength of your Internet connection, go to the Airport menu, choose Open Internet Connect and watch the Signal Strength gauge. If the lighted dots do not make it to the right side of the gauge, the signal is low.

      Reset the router to solve a simple connection problems that affect video. Unplug all of the cables from the back of the router and wait 10 minutes before plugging them back in. Reset the computer's internal wireless connection by turning AirPort off and back on.

      Check for sources of wireless interference around the router and in your building. Make sure the router is positioned away from walls and floors and that it is as close as possible to your Mac. Check for metal objects such as file cabinets and thick walls, which can weaken the signal. Look for other wireless devices sycg as cordless phones and garage door openers. If you find interference, move the router to a central location and switch the broadcasting frequency to help boost the signal and allow your computer to stream video.

      Empty the cache of your Internet browser; when your Mac's browser cache files become corrupted, they cause problems loading pages. If you are using Safari, choose "Empty Cache" from the Safari menu. For other browsers, find the caches in your /username/Library/Caches file; locate the folder with the browser name and drag it to the trash to empty the cache manually. Frequently emptying the cache can solve buffering problems.

      Watch your Web behavior to note potential problems. Make a note of what you are doing while streaming video. If you have a number of other programs and websites running at the same time, it can cause problems with buffering. Close websites that have a number of large images or Flash content that takes time to load. Shut down unnecessary programs and leave only the video window open.
