How to Change From a Blogger FTP to Feedburner

If you previously used File Transfer Protocol, or FTP, to host your Blogger blog, the URL that supplies your Really Simple Syndication, or RSS, feed is no longer valid. FeedBurner – a Web feed management provider – enables you to change the existing Blogger information so your readers continue to receive RSS updates without interruption. Update the Blogger source feed in FeedBurner to allow it to get data from your new Blogger URL address.

Instructions

    • 1

Point your browser to your Blogger website and copy the URL that displays in the address bar. Your URL looks like "http://blogname.domain.com" if you use a custom domain.

    • 2

Log in to your FeedBurner account. Click the desired RSS feed in the My Feeds page that automatically opens.

    • 3

Click the "Edit Feed Details" link that appears underneath your feed title to display your current address. Replace the URL in the Original Feed text field with your new Blogger feed, which looks like "http://blogname.domain.com/feeds/posts/default" for Atom 1.0 or "http://blogname.domain.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss" for RSS 2.0.

    • 4

Click the "Save Feed Details" button to preserve your changes. Your FeedBurner feed now pulls from your updated Blogger address and looks like this:
      http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogname

    • 5

Log in to your Blogger account and click the "Settings" link in the Dashboard. Click the "Site Feed" link under the Settings menu that appears.

    • 6

Enter your complete FeedBurner address in the Post Feed Redirect URL text field and click the "Save Settings" button. All Blogger feed traffic is now redirected to FeedBurner.

Tips & Warnings

  • Your blog address looks like "http://blogname.blogspot.com" if it is hosted by Blogger.

  • If you do not currently have a FeedBurner feed set up for your blog, type your blog's address in the "Burn a feed right this instant" text field on the My Feeds page, click the "Next" button on the right and follow the prompts to confirm your new feed.
