Third-party webcam effects software is compatible with external and internal webcams.

Windows Live Messenger does not include integrated webcam effects. To add an effect to your video chat, configure your Windows Live Messenger video settings with your webcam effects software. If you don’t have a webcam effects program installed on your computer, download a third-party application.

Instructions

      Download and install a third-party application, such as ManyCam, Magic Camera or WebcamMax. ManyCam is a free webcam effects program. At the time of publication, Magic Camera and Webcam Max cost approximately $30. Open the webcam effects software. Select the “Effects” panel.

      Launch Windows Live Messenger and sign in to your account.

      Press the “Alt” key. The Windows Live Messenger toolbar will appear.

      Click the “Tools” tab and select the “Set Up Audio and Video Devices” option. The Audio Settings menu will appear. Click the “Next” button to proceed to the Video Settings menu.

      Click the “Webcam” drop-down menu and select the webcam effects program. Your live webcam image will appear. Click the “Finish” button to save your video settings.

      Select one of your Windows Live Messenger contacts and start a video call.

      Scroll through the webcam software’s Effects panel and select your preferred effect. The effect will be applied to your live image automatically.
