How to Remove Mineral Spots From a Windshield

The windshield on your car probably is the most important but most forgotten part of your car to clean. Low visibility may not seem like a problem until you clean your windshield and see how clear it can be. A downside of cleaning the windshield is you may notice mineral spots all over that can’t be removed with regular glass cleaner. You can remove mineral spots from a windshield with a little work and a few products from an auto parts store.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Rub 00-grade steel wool over the windshield to remove most of the mineral spots. This grade of steel wool is harsh enough to remove the spots but fine enough to not scratch the glass.

    • 2

Apply glass polish directly to the windshield. Work the polish around on a polishing pad and rub the windshield top to bottom. Let the polish dry to a haze.

    • 3

Buff the polish off the windshield by hand using a microfiber cloth.

Tips & Warnings

  • Clean glass after you’ve washed and detailed all other areas of your car to avoid spray or cleaner getting on your windows.

  • Do not use ammonia-based cleaners on tinted car windows. Do not use steel wool on window tint.
