How to Iron Silk Clothes
Silk is one of the most intimidating fabrics to iron, and for good reason. The all natural fabric is spun from silk thread that comes from the silk worm. It is extremely delicate and easily damaged. Ironing silk is risky, and requires patience and a slow hand. Learning how to do it properly will ensure your garment is being cared for properly and you also will save a few dry cleaning dollars. Set the iron to the silk setting. If your iron does not have this setting use the lowest setting possible.

Hang the article of silk clothing in the bathroom while you take a hot shower to ensure it is damp, or plan to iron it when it is freshly laundered and still damp. The steam in the shower may help remove wrinkles.

Lay the silk garment inside out on an ironing board. Instead of using the typical ironing technique, try pressing instead. Place a pressing cloth or a thin dish towel over the garment and, using quick strokes, press the silk garment.

Dry the garment on the ironing board and hang it up gently on a hanger when completed.

Tips & Warnings
Watch the setting on the iron carefully. High heat and hot steam can damage silk forever. Do not allow water drops to touch the fabric as this can create rings and stains. Do not use the steam setting as many irons will leak drops of water and damage the fabric.
