How to Import a Song on UTAU
UTAU is a free, Japanese vocal synthesizer program. It takes voice files and transforms them into synthesized sounds. The result is a digitized version of the original song file. You can use the keyboard on the synthesizer to play the song back in different keys and arrangements. Once you're ready, importing songs into UTAU is easy.

1
Record your own vocals in a separate music recording program, or look for the vocal version of your favorite song. Some popular songs offer vocal or instrumental versions in addition to the standard version.
-
2
Make sure the song is in either MIDI or waveform audio file format, known as .wav for short. UTAU does not import any other formats. If your file is in MP3 format, you can use a variety of free programs to convert your file to the desired format.

3
Move your file into the Voice folder of UTAU. In the UTAU program folder, this is where voice files are stored. Placing it in the Voice folder makes it easier to import. You can rename the file, if you want, so that it is easy to remember and retrieve.
-
4
Open UTAU. In the first menu, select "File" and then "New," to open your project's Settings box. Under "Voice bank," select the drop-down menu, which will list all the voice files in the UTAU Voice folder.

5
Choose the file you want to import, and click the "OK" button.

Tips & Warnings
Going to the main menu and selecting "File," then "Import" will bring you to a search box where you can navigate to your file. This is a good option if you'd like to keep your song files in a folder separate from the UTAU Voice folder. This is also where you can import the instrumental version of your song.
