How to Make a Building Model on a Computer
Drawing a sketch of a building that you want to build can help you to explain to the architect how you want the structure to look. However, if you want to create a more accurate representation of the building, use a computer modeling software program. A building model created on a computer allows a viewer to see a three-dimensional version of the structure. You can change the model at any time because it is a computer rendering of the building.

Use the TurboFloorPlan 3D Home and Landscape Pro software. The application is home design software that is sold by IMSI Design. The software has the standard rendering options you need to create a model of a building, such as doors, windows, paint color and a variety roofs. There are even custom options that you can add to the building like energy-saving solar panels. Add, move and place items to create the building using the drag and drop interface.

Create a building model using Google SketchUp. The application is available as a free download from Google. The program has drawing tools to create a 3D model of a building, such as the "Push/Pull" tool, which you can use to raise or lower the height of the model's walls. The software also allows you to share the model with other users by uploading it to the Google online 3D Warehouse.

Use the DesignWorkshop Lite application. This program is available free for download from the Architecture Week website. This application has versions for both Windows and Mac OS X. You can create a building model from scratch using the available drawing tools or use one of the application's model templates to create the building.
