How to Troubleshoot a Niles EVC
The Niles EVC-100 plate-style electronic stereo volume control is a simple device for selecting the volume level you want when using a Niles stereo system and loudspeakers. Like any electronic device, it can experience a variety of problems, some of which you can troubleshoot yourself by identifying a few common issues that can lead the device to not operate as it should.

1
Move any IR flashers near your Niles EVC-100 away from it. The built-in IR sensor on your EVC-100 picks up flasher output, resulting in an optical feedback. If you can’t move the flashers, try smaller flashers.

2
Press the “Mute” button on the wall plate if you can’t hear any sound through the loudspeakers, as you may have accidentally set turned off the sound. In addition, press “Mute” if you see the Power Sense light blinking and can’t hear sound, as you likely have the control set to Sleep mode for 10 minutes to 2 hours.

3
Reduce the volume on your EVC-100 by pushing the “Volume” down-arrow button if the sound coming from your speakers is distorted or has interference, as your may have reached the volume limit for the amplifiers. If reducing the volume doesn’t help, contact an electrician to check your sound setup, search for possible sources of radio frequency interference, or check for equipment defects or damage such as loose or damaged wires.
-
4
Check that the control and system are receiving power if your EVC-100 isn't working at all. Sometimes a power outage can cause a circuit to trip, cutting the power, or damage an electrical socket or wiring. If it appears that your control isn’t working because of electrical damage or malfunction, hire an electrician to inspect and conduct repairs.

5
Reset the control if you can’t resolve the issue or you suspect that a power surge has happened. Turn off your Niles stereo system, push the “Volume” up- and down-arrow buttons on the wall plate at the same time, turn on your stereo system, wait at least five seconds and then release the buttons to restore the device to its factory default settings.

Tips & Warnings
If troubleshooting doesn't fix your EVC-100 issue, contact Niles Audio Technical Support at 800-289-4434 for additional assistance.
Sound interference may not go away even after you find the source of the issue. For example, damage to the loud speakers caused by having the volume set too high can result in continuous interference or sound distortion until you replace the speakers.
