How to Dissolve Hardened Decoupage
Decoupage is a type of all-in-one glue, sealant and finish used to attach paper and fabric to surfaces. It is a favorite among crafters due to its versatility and flexibility. And since it's a water-based, nontoxic glue, it is suitable for children to use. Though decoupage is fairly simple to remove while still wet, it becomes more challenging to remove once dry. You can dissolve hardened decoupage by using a product formulated to melt away the glue.

1
Spray wallpaper remover onto the decoupage you want to remove, applying an even coat over the entire surface. Allow the remover to set for 2 to 10 minutes, depending on how long the hardened decoupage has been sitting.
-
2
Scrape the decoupage from the surface it was affixed to, using a putty knife. This should remove the decoupage entirely.

3
Use sandpaper to remove the decoupage, if the putty knife and wallpaper remover didn't remove it completely.

Tips & Warnings
Use the steam from your iron to heat and loosen the decoupage, if you do not have access to wallpaper remover. Be sure to hold the iron at least 1 inch away while steaming the decoupage, so you don't damage your iron.
