A Hewlett-Packard point of sale system is used by businesses to sell merchandise. It is used in the place of an electronic cash register and provides a way to keep track of inventory, sales numbers and custom orders of products. HP POS comes with software and hardware such as bar-code scanner guns, cash drawers, receipt printers and credit-card readers. HP POS can be set up according to your own business needs.

      Follow the on-screen instructions that appear when you first turn on the HP POS computer as it starts up. Select the desired language. When prompted, accept automatic updates and allow them to install. After all updates have been installed and the computer has finished configuring its POS, it will reboot.

      Right-click on the Windows desktop. Select "Properties" from the menu that appears on-screen. Select the desired display settings such as screen refresh rates, monitor model, font sizes, power management settings and color settings.

      Place the HP POS Documentation CD into the HP POS computer. Follow the on-screen commands and enter the required information when prompted by the computer.

      Connect the scanner USB cable by inserting one end into the port located at the bottom of the scanner handle and the other end into a USB port located on the POS computer. Restart the POS computer. Scan the provided HID Keyboard Emulation bar code. A dialog box will appear. Select "Human Interface Device" to install the scanner diver. Click "Next" and then "Finished."

      Restart the HP POS computer. Closely watch the monitor light; when it turns green press the "F10" key to put the computer into Computer Setup mode. Use the arrow keys to select the language and hit "Enter." A menu with five headings will be displayed in the "Computer Setup Utilities" menu. Use the arrow keys to select the desired heading. Press "Enter" to select the option. Press "Esc" to return to the "Computer Setup Utilities" menu. Once you have entered all the desired settings, use the arrow key to select "File" and hit "Enter." Select "Save Changes and Exit" to save the settings you selected. Once you have exited the F10 setup screen, restart the computer.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you attach a device to the HP POS that does not automatically install its drivers, you can find the drivers and download them at hp.com.

  • Do not turn off the computer when saving F10 Computer Setup Utilities settings, as this can corrupt the computer files and may cause performance problems.
