How to Downgrade Your DSi

To downgrade your Nintendo DSi’s software state, you need to perform a complete system reset. This operation may become necessary if a game installation or software update is interrupted. Such an interruption can cause file corruption and incomplete installations, which often result in system instability. Once the system reset is complete, your DSi will have been downgraded to its factory state. Once it is back in its factory state you can update it to the latest software or leave it as is. This process will erase your game saves and other personal data.

Instructions

1. Go to the “Settings” menu on your Nintendo DSi and select “Memory.”

2. Choose “Format System Memory” and then press “Initialize System.”

3. Touch the “Format” button to perform the system reset on your Nintendo DSi. Once complete, your DSi will have been downgraded back to its factory condition with no updates, add-ons or extras.

4. Go to “Update” in the "Settings" menu if you want to re-update your DSi software.

Tips & Warnings

• If you don’t want to lose game saves and other personal data, create copies of them and transfer them to an external memory source, such as your computer. To transfer them, connect your DSi to your computer via a USB cable. If you have a memory card reader on your computer you can connect your DSi’s memory card to it instead.
