How to Change the CoD4 Miles Folder on a Mac

Call of Duty 4 (CoD4) is a first-person shooter game that runs on Xbox, Windows PCs and Macintoshes. Like all video games, it contains a number of asset files -- the technical term for models, sound files and similar items -- that make the computer run. The music asset files are in the Miles folder of the game's installation. Because the game has no in-game controls for turning off the background music, a workaround is changing the name of the Miles directory when the program isn't running and re-starting it. This doesn't impede playing the game; it usually means the program doesn't load the music files.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the folder on your Macintosh on which you installed the game. On Macintosh OS X computers, the entire game is self-contained in a single folder. The folder is called "CoD" or "Call of Duty 4 – Modern Warfare."

    • 2

Look for the folder named "Miles."

    • 3

Single-click on the folder to select it and press the "Enter" key on your keyboard. This will prompt you to rename the folder. Rename the folder "MusicOff."

    • 4

      Start the computer game.
