How to Replace the Turbine Assembly on a Hoover Steamvac

The spin-and-scrub mechanism in a Hoover SteamVac carpet cleaner is controlled by the turbine assembly located at the bottom of the appliance. If your SteamVac is not scrubbing using the brush system controls it cannot clean properly, and you should manually replace the turbine assembly. A new turbine part can be ordered from the Hoover manufacturer or an online retailer.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Turn off the Hoover SteamVac if it is on, and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

  • Pull off the lower and upper tanks from the carpet cleaner and set the tanks aside.

  • Lower the handle on the carpet cleaner and pry off the speed-indicator knob at the top of the carpet cleaner using a flat-head screwdriver.

  • Remove the screw from the top portion of the dirty-water tank on the carpet cleaner using a Phillips screwdriver.

  • Turn the carpet cleaner over so it rests on its front side, then press on the tabs on the side of the brush roll to release it from the carpet cleaner.

  • Remove the screws below where the brush roll was attached and turn the carpet cleaner over again.

  • Lift off the clips on the top and bottom portions of the frame above the wheels using your flat-head screwdriver.

  • Remove the mounting screws from the front of the turbine housing. Pull out the hoses from the back and front of the turbine using your hands.

  • Lift out the entire turbine from the carpet cleaner. Place the new turbine unit into the carpet cleaner, and reconnect the front and back hoses to the new turbine part.

  • Reinsert the mounting screws into the front of the turbine, then press on the clips onto the front frame above the wheels.

  • Turn the carpet cleaner over, and reinsert the screws at the bottom panel. Place the brush roll back on. You should hear it snap into place.

  • Lift the carpet cleaner up and reinsert the screw into the dirty-water tank. Snap the speed-indicator knob back into place, and slide the upper and lower tanks back onto the front of the carpet cleaner.
