How to Put a Security Code on a Cricket Modem
Your Cricket modem allows you to use and share your wireless broadband connection with your computers and other devices. The modem will connect to the Cricket network using your service plan and distribute that connection across your local network. To prevent intruders from using your shared connection, the Cricket modem implements a unique encryption key that must be entered on all computers wishing to establishing a connection. Enter this security code in the Windows Network Connection settings.

Press and hold the “Power” button until the LEDs on your modem illuminate.

Hold the “Wi-Fi” button for at least three seconds to enable the wireless connection.

Click the “Wireless Network Connection” icon, which is located in your system tray. This expands a list of available networks, including your Cricket device.

Click to highlight the network and click “Connect.” This asks you for the security code.

Slide the battery cover off the back of the modem. The security code is printed on the sticker at the top.

Enter the key from the sticker into the fields and click the “Connect” button. Continue reading if you want to change this key.

Open a Web browser. Type “192.168.1.1” in the URL bar and press “Enter.” This opens the Cricket modem’s user interface.

Click “Login.” Type “cricket” in the “User Name” box and “0000” in the “Password” box when you are prompted for the login information.

Click the “Connection” icon at the top. This provides a list of connection options on the left-hand side of the screen. Depending on your model, click either the “WLAN Status” or “Security” option. If you clicked the “WLAN Status” option, click “WLAN Settings” on the following page and enter the new key in the “Pre-Shared Key” field. If you clicked “Security,” type the new key in the “WPA Pre-Shared Key” box on the following page. Click the “OK” or “Apply” button to save your changes.
