Where Is the Drain Plug for the Carburetor on a Yamaha Raptor?
The pair of carburetors used by Yamaha's 350 and 660 cc Raptor all-terrain vehicles are fitted with drain screws, allowing the carburetor float chambers to be emptied for storage or maintenance. The drain screws are placed along the left sides of the float chambers, located at the bottom of each carburetor. Both screws can be accessed through the left side of the frame without having to disassemble the ATV's fenders and fuel tank.
Instructions
-
-
1
Park the Raptor and let its engine cool for at least 30 minutes to prevent burns caused by accidentally touching the engine cylinders and crankcase.
-
2
Turn the fuel valve selector lever, located under the left side of the fuel tank, to the "Off" position.
-
-
3
Follow the drain hoses attached to the bottom of the carburetor float chambers to their mounting point at the rear of the engine crankcase, near the rear swingarm. Pull the ends of the hoses out from the ATV's frame and place them into the mouth of a small gas can.
-
4
Turn the carburetor drain screws, under the left side of the float chambers, counterclockwise two full turns, using a flat-head screwdriver. Allow the gas remaining in the float chambers to drain completely and watch the flow of gas for debris, indicating contamination of the fuel supply or rust in the fuel tank. Turn the drain screws clockwise until they are lightly seated after the float chambers have emptied.
-
5
Wipe the ends of the drain hose with a shop towel, then reinsert them into the mounting point between the engine and the rear swingarm. Wipe away any spilled gasoline with the shop towel.

Tips & Warnings
Tighten the drain screws until they are lightly seated. Over-tightening the screws can damage the float chamber threads and the tapered screw tips, reducing the ability to seal the float chambers.
Do not smoke or work near an open flame or sparks while draining the Raptor's carburetors. The fumes released during the draining process are extremely flammable and can cause serious burns if ignited.
