Troubleshooting a Realtek ALC662 With a Front Headset Jack
You’ve installed your new motherboard with the on-board Realtek ALC662 audio chipset, connected the appropriate cables to the right ports, installed your OS and set up your speakers, but when you press “Play,” there’s no sound or the audio just doesn’t sound right. Troubleshoot audio issues by checking the cables and connections first, and then make sure that the motherboard’s BIOS is correctly configured. If the hardware looks good, check the system setup for driver or configuration issues.
Instructions
-
Check Connections and the Motherboard BIOS
-
1
Turn off the computer.
-
2
Check if each speaker plug is in the correct port and fully seated. If your speaker system has a powered subwoofer or center channel, make sure that it is plugged into an outlet and turned on. If you have a headphone set plugged into the front panel, disconnect it.
-
-
3
Check if the front panel audio cable is fully seated in the motherboard port.
-
4
Turn on the computer and press the “F2” button when the POST screen appears.
-
5
Select the “Advanced” tab and press “Enter.”
-
6
Select “Chipset Settings” and press “Enter.”
-
7
Select “Onboard HD Audio” if it set to “Off” and press the “+” key to change it to “Auto.” Select the “Front Panel” option and change it to “Auto” as well.
-
8
Press the “F10” key to save your BIOS configuration changes and restart the computer.
Install Hardware Drivers and Check Audio Configuration
-
9
Download and install the latest hardware drivers for your motherboard. If there are no official drivers for your motherboard model or if the motherboard drivers do not include audio drivers, download and install the latest generic audio driver from the Realtek website.
-
10
Click the “Start” menu button and click “Control Panel.”
-
11
Click “Sound.” If your speakers or “Realtek Digital Output” entries show “Disabled” status, right click on it and select “Enable” from the contextual menu. Click “OK.”
-
12
Click “Realtek HD Audio Manager.” Click the “Speaker Configuration” menu and select the hardware configuration that best matches your speaker setup. If you are using the motherboard’s digital audio output, click “Digital Output,” click “Default Format” and select the audio quality setting that best matches your setup capabilities from the drop-down menu.
-
13
Click the speaker volume icon in the taskbar and unmute the speakers if they are muted. Adjust the volume if it is set to 0.
