A computer with OS X Server installed must be on for the server to be on.

Snow Leopard Server, unlike the client OS version of Snow Leopard, allows your computer to operate as a server with complete access to Apple's network services. While Apple does sell Mac Mini and Mac Pro computers with the server version of their OS preinstalled, you can also convert a computer using the regular OS into a server system. If you want to convert your Snow Leopard computer into a Snow Leopard Server computer, you can do so using the Snow Leopard Server install disc.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the Snow Leopard Server installation disc into the computer's disc drive. Click the "Apple" icon in the computer's menu bar and select the "Restart..." option.

    • 2

Press and hold the "C" key while the computer is restarting to boot from the installation disc.

    • 3

Follow the onscreen instructions to install the Snow Leopard Server OS. When prompted to choose a destination disk, selected the computer's default hard drive.

    • 4

Restart the computer when prompted. Once the computer restarts, the Snow Leopard Server OS will be installed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Installing the Snow Leopard Server OS on your Mac computer will delete all of the data stored on the computer's hard drive.
