How to Decrypt Endpoint Manager

When using Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager, it is sometimes necessary to remotely decrypt a client computer's partition, for example if that machine's user cannot log in to his system. While the computer of an authorized user automatically decrypts the system's files upon a successful login, failure to log in to a computer results in an inability to decrypt the files. If you have administrative privileges, you can fix that issue by using the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager application.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager by clicking on the application's shortcut in the Start menu.

    • 2

Select "Group Policy Objects" from the left-hand pane and right-click on it. Click on "New."

    • 3

Name the new policy you wish to create and click on "OK." Right-click on the newly created policy in the left-hand pane and select "Edit."

    • 4

Select "Software Settings" and click on "Symantec Endpoint Encryption." Choose "Symantec Endpoint Encryption-Full Disk" and click on "Remote Decryption."

    • 5

Click on "Change this setting" and select "Decrypt all disk partitions."

    • 6

Click on the "Save" button. Select "Clients" from the left-hand pane and drag the policy you just finished editing to the name of the computer whose drives you wish to decrypt. Reboot the client computer to finish the process.
