Swype Input Method for the iPad

Type more than 40 words per minute on your iPad with Swype.

The fastest texting time on a touchscreen device is 25 words in 25.94 seconds, as of August 2010. The record holder achieved this with the Swype input method, which lets you type words by sliding a finger from letter to letter, similar to swipe gestures for Apple devices. For iPad owners, this is an improvement over traditional input methods, due to the awkwardness of holding the iPad with one hand and typing with the other. Installing a Swype application for iOS is possible on a jailbroken iPad.

Things You'll Need

• Cydia software application
• Internet connection

Instructions

1. Launch Cydia by tapping the icon on your home screen. The Cydia application automatically installs with jailbreaking software, such as Spirit.

2. Select a user type if this is your first time running Cydia, and install any updates by tapping "Complete Upgrade." Tap the "Close Cydia (Restart)" button to restart the program.

3. Tap the "Manage" icon on the bottom of the screen. Touch "Sources" to bring up a list of current sources, and then tap "Edit" and "Add."

4. Type "ihacksrepo.com" into the pop-up window and select "Add Source" to install the repository. This is the source of the Swype application for iOS.

5. Tap "Return to Cydia" and "iHacks Repo" to open the repository. Select "Swype" from the list of apps and tap "Install."

6. Touch "Confirm" to install Swype on your iPad. When the installation finishes, the Swype input method automatically works on the iPad.
