How to Use Team Explorer

Team Explorer is one of the Microsoft Visual Studio development products. With Team Explorer, you and your team can work together and collaborate on new software projects. However, you do not have to be a software developer to use this product. Team Explorer works in conjunction with Microsoft's Team Foundation Server. At the time of publication, the cost to purchase Team Explorer is $299. Team Foundation Server cost $499. A free 90 day trial version of the software is also available through the Microsoft Download Center.

Instructions

      Download and install the “Team Explorer” and “Team Foundation Server” software, if you have not done so already. See the link located in the “Resources” section of this article for detailed instructions on installing the software.

      Create your first team project. To do this, log into the Team Foundation Server. Click “File” from the top navigation menu. Select “New Team Project.” Complete the project setup wizard to create your project.

      Add your team project to Team Explorer. To do this, click “File” from the top navigation menu. Select “Add Existing Team Project.” Select, from the drop down menu, the Team Foundation Server you want to add the project to. Click the team project you want to add, then click “OK.”

      Open your new project in Team Explorer. To do this, click “File” from Team Explorer's top navigation menu. Select “Open” and “New Project.” Select the project you wish to open.

      Remove a project from Team Explorer. To do this, open the project you want to remove. Click “Edit” from the Team Explorer top navigation menu. Select “Remove,” then click “OK.”

      Upload documents for your team projects. To do this, open Team Explorer. Look underneath the “Documents” section. Right-Click the folder you want to place the document in. Click “Upload Document.” Browse through your computer files to select the document you want to upload.

      Delete a document from your team projects. To do this, look underneath the “Documents” section in Team Explorer. Click the document you want to remove. Click “Edit” from the top navigation menu. Click “Delete” and “OK.”
