Gravatars, a shorthand for globally recognized avatars, are images that represent a blog user when posting or commenting on blogs. Gravatars can be easily created and implemented into different blog website platforms, including WordPress, TypePad, Tumblr and Blogger. Gravatars help attract more attention to a blog, which leads to more traffic. Gravatars also provide a way to brand your image, which is useful if you're selling products or providing services, and help other computer users recognize you and assist in establishing your image as an expert on your topic.

Create a Gravatar

Open a Web browser and go to the Gravatar website at en.gravatar.com. Click the "Get Your Gravatar Today" button.

Type your email address and click "Signup." A confirmation email is sent to your email inbox. Go to your email inbox, open the Gravatar email and click the activation link.

Type a username and password. Click "Signup," then click the "Add one by clicking here" link to add an image. Click the button to choose where to select the image.

Select the image from the location and click the "Next" button. Crop the photo and click the "Crop and Finish" button. Click a rating on the "Choose a rating for your Gravatar" page. The Gravatar is created, and you can now implement it on your blog.

Open a Web browser and go to the blog URL where you want to comment.

Open the blog post where you want to leave a comment. Click the "Comment" link on the blog post. A comment box appears.

Type your comment and click "Post comment." The comment appears on the blog with your gravatar image.
