How to Use Cooliris for 3D Posts to Flickr

Although visitors to Flickr.com can search on the site for photos by subject or by a Flickr account holder’s name, the search results appear on a 2D viewing space. Cooliris, Inc. has created a free 3D viewing space, the Cooliris infinite 3D Wall, for viewing a wide variety of media including videos, music, news and photos from certain Web sources including Flickr. Cooliris is a browser add-on available in Windows in Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. To use it for posts to Flickr, you will need to add it to one of these browsers and then learn to navigate its 3D environment.

Instructions

  1. Add to Firefox

    • 1

Open Mozilla Firefox. Click “Tools” on the menu bar and then select “Add-ons” to open the Add-ons Manager. Click “Get Add-ons” on the left side of Add-ons Manager screen.

    • 2

Type “Cooliris” in the Search All Add-ons field near the top right corner of the screen and then press “Enter” on your computer keyboard to view Cooliris options.

Click the arrow to the right of the magnifying glass on the search bar at the top center of the screen to reveal a list of website options. Select “Flickr” from the options.

Enter a keyword or words in the Search Flickr field and click “Enter” on your keyboard to bring up related Flickr photos on the 3D Wall.

Click a photo to pop it up from the wall. Click any area above or below the wall and then, without releasing the mouse key, drag from that area left or right to see the wall from different angles and see additional photos.

    • 11

Close the Cooliris 3D Wall if you want to see photos by a specific Flicker user on the wall. Go to the user’s Flicker page, roll your cursor over the bottom left corner of any image to reveal the “Launch Cooliris” icon. Click the icon to re-open the Cooliris 3D Wall in a new tab and display all of the user’s photos.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also click and slide the “Scroll the Wall” switch left or right at the bottom center of the screen to move the wall.

  • If you want to see photos posted to Flickr as a slideshow, click the “Slideshow” button near the bottom right corner of the screen to open a slideshow bar.

  • As of this publication, Cooliris sometimes doesn’t load all of a Flickr user’s photos on the 3D Wall. If this happens, don’t worry. It’s a glitch. Close Cooliris and start again from the user’s Flickr page.
