How to Take Apart a Canon I850 Inkjet Printer
The Canon I850 is photo printer is capable of producing high-resolution photos as well as printing other graphics and text. Although Canon does not recommend taking its printers apart, you may be able to solve common printer problems, such as issues with the ink cartridges or malfunctioning paper rollers, by performing repairs yourself. If you make a mistake and cause additional damage to the printer, you will void the warranty Canon provides.

Turn off the printer. Unplug it from the electrical socket and the computer.

Locate the six small slots in between the top and bottom sections of the case on the back, front and sides of the printer. The slots are labeled with arrows.

Place a flat-head screwdriver in each of the slots and push gently to unlock the plastic bracket inside. Lift the top of the case away from the printer as you unlock each bracket until the top is completely free.

Remove the four Phillips screws securing the ink cartridge assembly to the interior of the printer. Pull the ink cartridge assembly away from the rest of the printer. Disconnect the wire connecting the ink cartridges to the printer's circuit board to remove the assembly completely.

Remove the two Phillips screws on each side of the printer's roller assembly. Disconnect the wire connecting the roller to the circuit board to remove it completely.
