How to Make Ceramic Pendants With Oven Baked Clay
Oven-baked clay, also known as polymer clay, is a synthetic alternative to natural clay. It is an ideal material to use for handmade jewelry due to its versatility, ease of use and availability in a wide range of colors. Once baked in the home oven, polymer clay has a low sheen. To create polymer clay pendants that look like ceramic, apply liquid clay over the finished piece. To make a matching bracelet or earrings, purchase jewelry findings at any craft store.

1
Work the polymer clay between your hands to make it pliable. Form it into a ball.
-
2
Roll the ball of polymer clay with the rolling pin or similar tool to make it flat. The thickness of the clay will depend on your pendant design.

-
3
Press the texture tool into the clay to embed a design. Alternatively, you can create a design using contrasting colors of clay. Use your fingers to affix the contrasting clay to the pendant. Roll the rolling pin over the finished design to create a smooth surface.

4
Poke a hole for the chain at the top of the pendant. Insert a toothpick into the clay until it touches the work surface below. Work the toothpick in small circles until the hole is the desired size.
-
5
Place a sheet of waxed paper on a cookie sheet. Lay the pendant on top of the waxed paper. Bake according to the clay manufacturer's directions and allow the pendant to cool completely.
-
6
Apply the liquid clay to the pendant with a paintbrush. Bake again according to the liquid clay manufacturer's directions. Allow your pendant to cool completely before handling.
