How to Mix Sheetrock for Texturing Walls With a Roller

Paint rollers give you an attractive, streaked result when you use them to texture your walls. You need to mix the mud to a consistency thicker than house paint, though, or you will achieve a thin, flat coat instead of the thick texture you desire. If you accidentally add too much water to your sheet-rock mud, allow it to sit for a few hours so it can dry out and thicken up for your next attempt.

Things You'll Need

• Tarp
• Sheet rock mud
• Water
• Mixer

Instructions

1. Lay out a tarp on the floor where you will work. Set your bucket of drywall mud on the tarp.

2. Add 1 cup of water to a 5-gallon bucket of softened drywall mud. Mix it with a manual drywall mud mixer until it reaches a new, softer consistency.

3. Add more water until it is a little thicker than house paint. Add the water slowly to ensure you cut off the flow at just the right time. The mud should cover your roller in a thick coat with hardly any dripping off the roller.
