How to Make Long Stemmed Rose Rice Favors

The tube can also be filled with birdseed or confetti, if you want to avoid scattering rice after the wedding.

These rose-shaped favors hold the rice that wedding guests throw at the bride and groom as they leave the ceremony. To scatter the rice, the wedding guest should hold the favor and flick her wrist in the direction of the newly married couple. The flick must be hard enough to loosen the end of the tube, but the guest shouldn’t have to use more than one hand to throw the rice. This version of the rose rice favor has a 24-inch stem, making it a long-stemmed rose. To make a different variety of rose, simply cut the wire to a different length.

Instructions

    • 1

Fold the green fabric in half, length-wise. Pin the fabric in place. Sew a seam with green thread down the 4-inch edge. Remove the pins.

    • 2

Start at one end and wind the florist’s tape up the heavy wire. Stop halfway up. Place the silk flowers against the wire and secure them in place by winding the tape. Continue to wind the tape up the wire, until you reach the wire’s end.

    • 3

Dab glue onto the end of the silk tube. Pull the tube onto the stem, glued-dabbed-end first. Twist the end of the glue-dabbed tube tightly around the wire. Wind florist tape over the end of the silk tube to secure it tighter to the wire. Allow the glue to dry.

    • 4

Fill the tube with rice or birdseed. Keep a 1 1/2-inch allowance between the rice and the top end of the tube.

    • 5

Twist the tube’s allowance, and tuck the twisted end back into the tube so it’s closed off – it should look like a bud.
