How to Put a Team Roster on a Shirt

How to Put a Team Roster on a Shirt thumbnail
Team T-shirts are popular for social groups as well.

From the junior soccer league to the high school pep squad, the team T-shirt with the team roster on the back is a nearly traditional part of many extracurricular activities. These shirts can boost unity and morale among team members and are worn with pride. If you're on a tight budget, you can design and make these T-shirts yourself instead of paying a professional printing service where the cost of printing the names of each team member will quickly add up.

Instructions

    • 1

Write out the names of the team members in the order, font, size and color the way you want them to appear and enter them on your computer using an image-editing program such as Microsoft Office Picture Publisher.

    • 2

Use a "mirror" or "flip horizontal" option to turn the names backward.

    • 3

Print the team roster names on a regular piece of copy paper to make sure the names look the way you want them to.

    • 4

Adjust the team roster names with your image editor if changes are necessary and test with plain paper again.

    • 5

Load iron-on transfer paper into your printer and print out the team roster onto the transfer paper.

    • 6

Lay a T-shirt down on a flat surface and place the transfer paper on the T-shirt where you want it to be. The image side of the transfer paper should be facing down.

    • 7

Cover the image with parchment paper and turn your iron on to high heat with no steam.

    • 8

Iron over the parchment paper firmly in short circular motions. Iron for at least 30 seconds, moving it constantly to prevent burning and making sure to iron over all of the names.

    • 9

Turn the iron off and let the image cool for several minutes.

    • 10

Peel the backing of the transfer paper off the T-shirt gently and slowly, using your fingers to help lift it. The team roster as you designed it should now be on the T-shirt where you wanted it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Follow the instructions on the iron-on transfer paper package so you know exactly how to load the paper in your printer. Otherwise, the wording may get printed on the backing side.

  • Do not use an ironing board for this project as they have a soft padding. You need a hard, heat-resistant surface for ironing.

  • Avoid touching the ink after printing as it will be wet and could ruin the design.
