Homemade after-shower oil in a decorative bottle makes a great gift.

Body oil can help treat severely dry skin. Applying an oil, such as baby oil, after taking a shower or bath helps your body retain moisture because the oil prevents the evaporation of water from the skin. To please your senses, make your own post-shower body oil using your favorite essential oils. Essential oils are absorbed through the skin in approximately 30 minutes and can positively affect your central nervous system. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Place one or more of your favorite essential oils in bottle. For a relaxing, stress relieving oil, add 20 drops of lavender essential oil and 10 drops of sandalwood essential oil to the bottle.

    • 2

Set the bottle aside for two days so the oils can combine. Shake the bottle frequently over the two days. Skip this step if you only use one type of essential oil.

    • 3

Add two ounces of sweet almond oil to the bottle with the essential oils.

    • 4

Add one ounce of jojoba oil to the bottle with the oil mixture. Shake the bottle to mix the oils. The sweet almond oil and jojoba oil are used to dilute the essential oils. Avoid using undiluted essential oils directly on your skin because this can cause irritation.

    • 5

Apply the oil on damp skin after taking a shower or bath. Use a circular motion to massage it into your skin. Pat your skin with a towel to remove excess moisture, or wait at least five minutes before putting clothes on.

Tips & Warnings

  • Experiment with different essential oil combinations. Adjust the amounts of the essential oils you use to get a stronger or weaker scent.

  • Learn about the different physical and emotional healing properties of the essential oils.

  • Store your homemade oil in a dark drawer away from sunlight. If after three months the oil starts smelling bad, discard it and make a new batch.
