How to Make a Stiletto Shoe Made of Fondant

Save

Fondant is an edible, sweet substance that hardens when dry for durable, creative pastry and cake decorations. You can transform an ordinary cake into a fashionista’s dream cake by topping it with a pair of life-size, fondant stiletto shoes. For a little bit of extra glamour, coat the shoes with a sprinkling of luster dust when the stilettos are finished. Surprise the guest of honor with the shoe-topped cake and then present her with the beautiful shoes to take home after the event and enjoy later.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 different colors of fondant
  • Wax paper
  • Rolling pin
  • New shoe insole
  • Rotary cutter or sharp knife
  • Tissue paper
  • Separate a 2-inch square of fondant for the stiletto heel.

  • Roll the fondant between your hands, putting more pressure at one end than the other to make a cone shape about 4 inches long. When you are finished, the wider end of the cone should have a diameter of about 2 inches. The narrow end of the cone should have a diameter of about 1/2-inch.

  • Lay the heel on a piece of wax paper with the 2-inch base of the cone facing downward. Let the heel dry for 24 hours.

  • Roll out the remaining fondant with a rolling pin to a thickness of 1/4-inch. Lay a new shoe insole on the fondant and cut around the shape with a rotary cutter or a sharp knife.

  • Bend the heel of the fondant shoe form upward 4 inches and pile scrunched tissue paper beneath the heel to keep the shape. Let the shape dry for 24 hours.

  • Roll out fondant in another color to a thickness of 1/8 inch. Cut four 1/2-inch wide strips from the fondant. Make each strip about twice the width of the toe of the shoe.

  • Pile scrunched tissue paper on the toe of the shoe. Lay two of the strips over the toe, spaced about 1 inch apart. Pinch the fondant strips against the sides of the shoe to hold the strips in place. Cut off any excess pieces of the strips.

  • Lay the remaining two strips on top of the first two strips. Lay the new strips on a slight angle to add a little bit of contrast to the shoe straps. Pinch the fondant strips against the sides of the shoe and cut off any excess.

  • Flip over the heel of the shoe. The 1/2-inch wide end is now facing downward. Spread a small amount of water on the top of the heel. Remove the tissue paper from beneath the heel of the shoe form. Place the heel of the shoe form on top of the moistened heel and press gently to join the two together.

  • Let the shoe straps dry and remove the tissue paper to complete the stiletto-heeled shoe.
