How to Make Boats Out of Paper Towel Rows
Using materials commonly found in the home, a boat craft can be made, from among other things, paper towel rolls. Simple boat crafts are projects best suited for children around 3 to 7 years old, as they give the young child an opportunity to learn about boat basics, and the things they need to stay afloat on the water.
Things You'll Need
- Scissors
- Glue
- Colored markers
- 20 ounce plastic bottle
- Two popsicle sticks
- Two paper towel rolls
- Tape
Instructions
-
-
1
Punch two small holes into the plastic bottle, one on each end.
-
2
Cut each of the two paper towel rolls into into two rectangles of the same size, giving you a total of four squares of paper towel rolls
-
-
3
Lay the cut and unfurled rolls flat and color them with your choice of markers.
-
4
Glue two squares of rolls to each other so that they match. You should have two matching (size) pairs of paper towel squares. These will be your sails.
-
5
Tape one paper towel square to the top of one popsicle stick. Repeat the process for the second square and stick.
-
6
Fit a popsicle stick into each of the holes in the plastic bottle. Because the original incision should be smaller than the circumference of the stick, it will fit snugly.
-
7
Once inserted, turn the sticks so that the sails run parallel with the plastic bottle. Then, slightly turn the stick, on in each direction, to give the plastic boat more stability.
