How to Make Large Floor Cushions From a Comforter
Large floor cushions create an inviting, comfortable space for watching a movie, enjoying a book or just chatting with friends in an open area of floor space. Home design stores sell floor cushions in at least a few different styles, but the price tags on these over-sized pillows can be rather hefty considering what you are purchasing. Instead of getting store-bought cushions, save yourself some money by recycling an old comforter or two to create your own floor cushions. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Cut two 31-inch squares from the comforter. Don't worry; the comforter won't completely fall apart when you cut it. The stitching that goes through all layers of the comforter will hold it together.
-
2
Put the two squares together so the sides of the comforter you want as the outside of your cushion face each other. Sew together the two squares along all four sides with a one-half-inch seam allowance. Leave only an 18-inch opening in the center of one side.

3
Lay the square out in front of you. Flatten the left seam to the bottom seam. This will create a triangle with the corner where the two seams intersect acting as the point. Sew across the triangle where it is 3 inches wide. Repeat with the right and bottom seams. Then with the top and left and the top and right. Trim each triangle one-half inch from the seam. This makes your cushion a box rather than flat like a pillow.

4
Turn the comforter cushion cover right side out. Stuff your floor cushion form in the cover. You need to compress the cushion to fit it through the 18-inch opening.
-
5
Fold the cut edges of the comforter in one-half-inch along the opening, and slip stitch it closed with needle and thread.
