  • Print this article

The rubber gasket on your Kenmore front loading washing machine or dryer creates a tight seal as your appliance tumbles the clothes. Over time, this gasket can lose its shape or develop rips or tears. The process to replace it can vary depending on the model of your Kenmore appliance, so it’s important that you refer to the service manual for your specific appliance. However, there are some general steps to replacing this gasket that apply to all Kenmore front loading appliances.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug your washer before beginning. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry the gasket seal out of position and then move it into the drum and out of the way. Release the wire connector from its holder in the door latch.

    • 2

Open the pump filter cover on the front of the machine and unclip the drainage tube from its holder. Remove the screw holding the housing in the place and put the housing from the machine. Remove the screws holding the main top to the machine and slide the top back. Then lift the top off of the machine.

    • 3

Pull out the dispenser tray. Press the locking tab while pulling on the dispenser tray to remove it from the control panel. Remove the two front control panel mounting screws and the two rear mounting screws. Detach the control panel by popping off the tabs from left to right. Place the control panel out of the way.

    • 4

Remove the row of front panel mounting screws you’ve now exposed. Lift the front panel up and out, careful of the heavy weight of the part.

    • 5

Use pliers to loosen the gasket seal’s drain port from the tube and pull it off. Use the spring expansion tool to remove the tub’s gasket clamp. Pull the seal out of the tub.

    • 6

Lubricate the groove of the new gasket seal with liquid dish soap before installation. Find the indicator on the seal. Position it on the tub so that it points upward. Fit the groove of the new gasket seal over the lip of the tub, working your way around the opening of the tub.

    • 7

Replace gasket seal clamp and connect the gasket port to its tube. Replace the front panel and its mounting screws. Reposition the control panel and replace its mounting screws. Slide the dispenser tray back into place.

    • 8

Replace the main top on the machine and screw it back into place. Replace the drainage housing and its screws. Connect the drainage tube in the pump filter back to its holder. Replace the wire connector in the door. Position the gasket seal into the place securely around the lip of the tub. Use your machine as desired.
