How to Make a Toy Tree Organizer

Reduce bedroom clutter with a toy tree organizer.

A toy tree organizer provides a creative storage space to reduce clutter in a child's bedroom. Toys are attached to the tree organizer with elastic bands that loop around each item. Colorful headbands or stretch ribbon can be used for the elastic bands. Fill a recycled flower pot with river pebbles and adorn it with bright silk flowers for the base of the toy tree organizer. Use stencils to paint a flower motif, monogram or name on the flower-pot base in colors to match the room's decor.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the height of the toy tree organizer. Measure from the floor to the shoulder of the tallest child who will be using the organizer.

    • 2

Cut the wooden dowel to the length of the measurement.

    • 3

Insert and hold the dowel in the center of the flower pot. Pour the filler rocks into the flower pot. Spread the rocks around the base of the dowel until it stands securely in the pot and does not tip over.

    • 4

Measure 8 inches above the rocks on the dowel and draw a line. Measure 2 inches above the line and draw another line at that mark. Continue to measure in 2-inch increments and mark a line until you reach the top of the dowel.

    • 5

Staple the center of an elastic band on each side of the dowel at each line using the staple gun. The band should hang from the center staple on the dowel with two loops.

    • 6

Apply the stencils to the flower pot and dowel with the tape. Dab the cutout sections in the stencils with the paint. Remove the stencils. The shapes should be painted onto the flower pot and dowel. Allow the paint to dry according to the manufacturer's directions.

    • 7

Insert the silk flowers and leaves between the rocks around the base of the dowel.

    • 8

Staple silk flowers and leaves at the top of the dowel using the staple gun.
