Instructions

    • 1

Turn off electricity to the oven vent hood.

    • 2

Put on safety glasses and rubber gloves. Use a degreasing cleaner and cotton cloths to remove dust and grease from the hood. Dry the surface with a cloth.

    • 3

Remove any scale from the hood surface using medium sandpaper. Feather the sanded areas smooth using fine emery paper.

    • 4

Rinse the hood with water to remove any degreaser residue. Wipe dry. The surfaces of the hood must be clean and dry prior to painting.

    • 5

Attach a strip of masking tape to the edge of a sheet of newspaper and fasten it to where the cabinet or wall meets the hood. Repeat until all surrounding cabinets or walls are covered with newspaper. Lay newspaper over the range to catch any dripping that may occur.

    • 6

Apply a thin coat of heat-resistant paint to the surface of the oven vent hood using a 2-inch foam paintbrush. Allow the paint to dry according to the manufacturer’s recommendations before applying a second coat.

    • 7

Allow the paint to cured for the required amount of time. Remove the taped newspaper and restore the electrical power.

Tips & Warnings

  • Cleaning products that contain ammonia are excellent for degreasing. A solution of one part water to one part ammonia also works well.

  • Smaller foam brushes work well in some applications for corners and seams.

  • Inhaling paint fumes can cause various health issues. Always provide ventilation when painting.
