How to Troubleshoot a Trimble HPB450 Amp

The Trimble HPB450 is a high-powered radio for use with GPS products. Like any piece of electronic equipment, you may run in to some problems during use. If a problem arises with your HPB450's amplifier, you have a number of steps to take to identify and fix it.

Instructions

    • 1

Verify that the battery is fully charged. The HPB450 will not operate well unless it is charged regularly. This will also extend the life of the battery.

    • 2

Examine the amplifier LED. The amplifier LED is labelled "Amp Power" and is directly below the TX and RX indicator lights. If the LED is lit, the RF output power is in the "high" setting. If it is not lit, the output power is in the "low" setting. Set the RF output power to the correct mode. The amp power selector switch is located on the rear panel.

    • 3

Check for error messages. If you see error "E1," the voltage is too high. If you see error "E2" or "E3," the voltage is too low. Either of these problems can negatively impact your amp, and will compromise the performance of the HPB450. Increase or reduce the voltage as necessary.
