How to Troubleshoot a WAP4400N
The WAP4400N Wireless-N Access Point from Cisco is an out-of-production wireless router. This also means that Cisco is no longer supporting the product. However, if you are having problems with your access point, there are still some steps you can take to remedy the situation, even if Cisco customer support won't help. Troubleshooting basic problems with the WAP4400N is fairly simple, assuming that you have a working understanding of wireless Internet connections.

1
Check the power and Ethernet cords. They should both be plugged firmly into the ports on the back of the access point. Make sure that the Ethernet cord is functioning properly. A good way to test this is by plugging it directly into a computer and trying to get online.
-
2
Keep the WAP4400N access point at a distance from any other access points. Having more than one access point on the same channel will cause interference and can compromise performance.

3
Make sure that the security settings for the wireless adapter and the access point match. For example, if the wireless adapter has WEP security enabled but the access point does not, you may be unable to connect to the network.
-
4
Check how many users are connected to the wireless access point. For home use, you will probably not run into any problems with too many users. However, if you are using the wireless access point in a public or business space, you should be aware that only 63 users can be connected at any given time. And even if you are under the 63 user limit, you may still run into serious slowdown if you have too many users connected at the same time.

5
Reset the access point to return it to its default settings. To reset the WAP4400N, locate the black reset button on the back of the access point and hold it down for 10 seconds. Keep in mind that this will restore factory default settings, so any stored IP addresses and wireless security settings will be lost.
