Use UTM values to track your campaigns.

Measure unique website visitors, click paths and return visitors with UTM (Urchin Traffic Monitor), a Web statistics analysis program from Urchin Software Corp., which was acquired by Google in 2005 and integrated into Google Analytics. Tag links with Google Analytics UTM values to track the number of people who visit a particular Web page.

Instructions

    • 1

Use Google UTM (Urchin Tracking Module) tags to add tracking information to your link. Add a question mark after the main part of the URL, then add the required UTM values with an ampersand between each term: "utm_source=XXX" (the source of the link), "utm_medium=XXX" (the method of delivery, such as email, postcard or banner ad) and "utm_campaign=XXX" (a name you give to your campaign).

    • 2

Identify paid keywords with "utm_term=XXX" and split test two advertisements that go to the same URL with "utm_content=XXX."

    • 3

Go to Google Analytics. Select "Traffic Sources" and select "All Traffic Sources" to see your UTM values.
