How to Optimize for SKU Numbers in Google

The best way to optimize for stocking unit identifiers, or SKUs, on the Google Product Search site is to include the SKU in either the title or description of the product. Listing the SKU in the description or title causes that product to show up in Google search results when the SKU is part of the keywords. As well, you can list the SKU in the "ID" column of your product data feed for deeper optimization.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch your spreadsheet software and create a new document. Go to the first row, and enter these headings across the top with one heading per column: ID, Title, Description, Price, Condition and Link.

    • 2

Go to the second row and enter the first SKU into the "ID" column.

    • 3

Go to the "Title" or "Description" columns and append the SKU number to the end of the title or description. Fill in the remaining details for the product in the appropriate columns.

    • 4

Save the file as a tab-delimited text file. In Microsoft Excel, go to the "File" menu, then click "Save File As" and select "Text (Tab Delimited)(*.txt)" from the drop-down box. In Google Spreadsheets, go to the "File" menu, then select "Export" and click "TXT." The file is saved in the correct format and now you can submit the data feed to Google for inclusion on the Google Product Search site.
